Thinking about giving your pet something from the medicine cabinet??
Think again!!!

February 17, 2013

The ASPCA Poison Control Center reports that in 2011, pet poisoning with over-the-counter human medications was the third most common call they received.

If you feel like your pet needs a medication for something, don't assume that if it's safe for us it's safe for them (just like chocolate!!!).  Consult your veterinarian with any questions regarding the safety of medications.  Anti-inflamatory drugs, like ibuprofen, naproxen and acetaminophen can cause serious organ damage in some animals.

In addition, always give your pet's medication as prescribed.  Don't assume 'double dosing' is helping.  And don't share medications between your pets, unless you've been told by your veterinarian that it is ok to do so.

If you have any questions regarding giving your pet a medication, call our office at 860-645-1700.
